Avocado Time!

Quite a while back, I promised that I would do the occasional book review.  I honestly haven’t done much of that but thought that I’d share a recent purchase with you today.  I ended up with some “extra” money (any such thing?) last week and decided to go online and order a few books that I’ve had my eye on for a while.

One of the books that I bought is called Absolutely Avocados.  I have gone on a huge avocado kick in the last eight months or so.  I mean, I absolutely love them!  I had never tried them before except in guacamole at restaurants but to actually buy one myself and do something with it?  Never!  What was I thinking?  All of those lost years are gone forever!  Now, I must give some credit to The Food Network here.  I love that channel and have gotten so many great ideas from them and, watching the chefs on TV do so many things with avocados gave me the push I needed to give them a shot at home.

usually cut them into chunks to add to salads and slice them into sandwiches.  I even mash them up and spread them on toast but I needed more ways to use them.  That’s how addicted I’ve become!  When the book came in, I sat right there in the office drooling over the recipes.  There is even a section telling you about all of the different kinds of avocados; how they taste, their texture and how to tell when each kind is at its peak.  There are also tips on cutting and storing them.

I also found a recipe on Pinterest the other day for Bacon and Avocado Macaroni Salad (here's the pin).  I absolutely intend to try it this weekend and will try to remember to come back and let you know how it turns out.  Imagine, three of my favourite things all together!  (For those of you who missed my ode to bacon Bacon!).

By the time that I’ve tried half of these recipes, my kids will never want to see another avocado again so I’ll have to find other guinea pigs……..

……..

One more thing that is completely off-topic…….  I discovered the other day how to post directly to Blogger from YouTube (via the Share icon) as you can see from my Canada Day post.  I’m sure that everybody else already knew how to do this and I’m the last one on the boat (as usual!) but I’m still excited about it.  I fully intend to have fun with it!
